14. Chin chin

Chin chin is crunchy fried dough, cut small and sold in clear bags. It is lightly sweet, sometimes with a hint of nutmeg, and it keeps. That makes it the right take-home snack, the one you put in a visitor’s bag at the end of the day. It is also the snack of long journeys and school breaks. Texture matters. Good chin chin snaps. Soft chin chin was under-fried or stored badly.
